Chess Club’s Puzzle Tournament Spawns Hallway Blockade
When the Chess Club hosted its first “Rapid Puzzle Relay” in the main hallway, participants set up giant magnetic chess problems along lockers and refused to yield until every puzzle was solved. Students from passing classes found their route blocked by focused knights and bishops, resulting in fifteen-minute detours to the science wing.
Vice Principal Torres negotiated a “Puzzle Pause,” offering hall monitors free coffee in exchange for safe passage corridors. The Chess Club agreed to relocate future relays to the library–but only after a victory lap of knight’s-move hops around the cafeteria.
The event raised funds for new chess clocks and taught everyone an unexpected lesson: true strategy sometimes requires detours–and a well-timed hall pass.
